City Council Announcements

January 3, 2006

1.    The National League of Cities Annual Conference will be held from Monday morning, March 13 thru Wednesday, March 15 in Washington DC. General sessions and workshops are held on Monday and Tuesday. The City’s Washington DC consultant can arrange for meetings with Congressional leaders or their staff for Wednesday morning, March 15. The early registration deadline is February 6, but the conference hotels fill up fast.

Please let council staff know as soon as possible if you are available to attend so that staff can reserve rooms in a nearby hotel. There is a direct flight that leaves Sunday, March 12 at 10:01 a.m. and arrives at Reagan National at 4:00 p.m. There is a return direct flight at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday that arrives in Salt Lake at 7:51 p.m. If you desire to attend the conference, please also let staff know if these direct Delta flights are acceptable.

Council Members Buhler and Turner may attend

2.    Metropolitan Water District, Board Member Reappointment - Leland Meyers' first term on the Metropolitan Water Board will expire in January, and he is eligible for reappointment. Consistent with the handling of other City board & commission reappointments, is it okay to place Mr. Meyers' name on the consent agenda to consider his reappointment?

All Council Members were in favor of the reappointment.

Ms. Gust-Jensen said the City Council meeting scheduled for January 5, 2006 could be canceled due to the small amount of issues scheduled.  She said issues could be moved to a future meeting.

All Council Members were in favor of the change.

Ms. Gust-Jenson said a City Council retreat was scheduled for January 19, 2006.
