City Council Announcements

May 12, 2009

A.    Information Needed by Council Staff

Potential conflicts during the months of September and November, lead to the proposed meeting date adjustments:

            Meeting held September 1

            No Meeting September 8

            No Meeting September 15

            Meeting held September 22

            Meeting held September 29

            No Meeting November 3

            Proposed Meeting (Thursday) November 5

Meeting held November 10 National League of Cities Conference of Cities in San Antonio

            Meeting held November 17

If Meeting on November 10 is adjusted, Proposed Meeting Date (Tuesday) November 24

Provided the Council will not be meeting on November 3 due to elections, the meeting will need to be rescheduled. The proposed dates to complete this meeting are Thursday, November 5 or November 24. However, if the Council elects to move the November 10 meeting due to the National League of Cities Conference of Cities, another meeting will need to be held potentially on November 24.

Is the Council supportive of the September meeting schedule?  Ms. Gust-Jenson said this item could wait until next week but asked Council Members to take a look at their schedules.

Would the Council like to hold a meeting on Thursday, November 5 to make up the November 3 meeting?

Would the Council like to adjust the schedule to accommodate interested members to attend the National League of Cities Conference in San Antonio, and adjust the meeting date from November 10 to November 24?

Additional City Council Announcements

A.    Information Needed by Council Staff

1. On May 1, 2009, Senior Administrative Staff and Council Representatives attended a seminar focusing on broad policy issues relating to homeland security. The event was very informative and furthered discussion on the development of City Policy. Attached is a letter of appreciation to The Honorable Janet Napolitano of United States Homeland Security for providing the opportunity for Salt Lake City to participate in the seminar. The letter also commends the Center’s Mobile Education Team (MET) who planned and carried out the seminar successfully.

Is the Council supportive of the attached letter?   Yes.

2.    Council Members have signed up for small group budget briefings.

Council Staff would like to draw Council Member’s attention to the following vacant  dates, in order to brief Council Members as far in advance of the potential adoption date as possible (potential adoption date – June 9):  Ms. Gust-Jensen asked Council Members to let staff know if they had any concerns about budget items.  She said it would be helpful to address those earlier in the budget process, rather than later.
