A. Decisions, Feedback & Information needed by staff

1. The City will be hosting two delegations from Keelung Taiwan coming to Salt Lake City on July 23, 2004. The first group will be headed by their Police Chief (with a group of about 15) and the second group headed by their Deputy Mayor (with a group of about 30) and the Consul General from San Francisco (about 4 people).  We will have an accurate count by Monday, the 12th of July.  Jay Rhodes with the Salt Lake City Police Department is handling the details of their schedule.

The delegation would like to arrange a time to meet with the City Council on Friday, July 23, 2004 at 3:30.  The delegation and the sister city committee is also planning a dinner that evening from 6:30-8:00.  It will be a Barbeque here at the C&C building and they would like any interested Council Members to attend. Gifts will be exchanged during the delegations visit. The Mayor will not be able to attend the 3:30 meeting, but is planning to be at the dinner.

Are there Council Members available to meet at 3:30 PM on July 23, 2004 for a welcoming ceremony and brief tour of the Council Office? Are there Council Members interested in attending the dinner at 6:30 PM on July 23, 2004? Councilmember Buhler, Councilmember Love, and Councilmember Saxton said they were available.   Councilmember Love asked if family members were invited.  Ms. Gust-Jenson said she would get that information.

2. Meeting schedule in August:

Tuesday August 10 and Tuesday August 24

The first September meeting is Tuesday, September 7

 3. Information on Carlton’s Mother’s funeral and viewing: The funeral will be Monday Morning at 11 a.m. in their church house at 760 N 1200 W.  The viewing will be the evening previous.

Would Council Members like to contribute to a joint remembrance such as flowers or funds toward a planting in her honor?  Councilmember Saxton said she wanted to know what they recommended regarding contributions to charities.  Councilmember Buhler said if they did not have any recommendations he suggested just doing flowers.  Councilmember Love said she wanted to contribute to a joint gift.  Councilmember Saxton said she wanted to do some flowers in addition to a larger charitable donation.  Ms. Gust-Jenson said she would get more information for the Council.
