Resolution No. 8 of 2019
Authorizing Salt Lake City
To Apply for a Grant Award From
The United States Department of Agriculture
For Northern Utah Food Hub Feasibility Study
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture (the “USDA”) offers grants under its Rural Business Development Grant Program; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Sustainability has adequate capability within its staffing resources to implement the proposed feasibility study; and
WHEREAS, through the USDA’s Rural Business Development Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2019, the full cost of hiring an outside consultant to assist with certain key tasks can be reimbursed, thereby reducing the overall expenditure for the project, making funds available for food systems projects throughout the City.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, as follows:
1. That the Director of the Department of Sustainability should submit the grant application to the USDA to fund the Northern Utah Food Hub Feasibility Study and to work with the USDA to meet established deadlines for the City to enter into a cooperative financial assistance agreement to accept a grant from the USDA.
2. Jackie Biskupski, Mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah, or her designee, shall have the authority to enter into a cooperative agreement with the USDA, upon appropriate review and approval of the City Council.
