RESOLUTION NO. 60 OF 2013
Authorizing Grants for Competitive Youth Sports Programs
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City has many underserved youth who cannot participate in competitive youth sports due to financial barriers; and
WHEREAS, the City is committed to making grants available to non-profit sports organizations in the City to enable sports program participation for youth who otherwise would be financially unable to participate; and
WHEREAS, the City values the health and social benefits, and the positive and structured environment resulting from participation in competitive youth sports programs; and
WHEREAS, in the Annual Budget for FY 2013-2014 the Council allocated $50,000 for a youth sports grant program; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the guidelines and application form attached hereto as Exhibits A and B, qualifying organizations may use awarded funding to create participation opportunities for individual players who are unable to participate in a sports program due to financial barriers; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds youth sports program grants benefit City residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, as follows:
1. The Council approves the youth sports grant guidelines and application form attached hereto as Exhibits A and B.
2. The Mayor is authorized to execute grant documents on behalf of Salt Lake City Corporation and to act in accordance with their terms.
3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
