RESOLUTION 50 2012

 

(Expressing Support of a Land Acquisition

to Develop a Neighborhood Park)

 

      A resolution expressing the support of the Salt Lake City Council for a land acquisition to develop a neighborhood park.

WHEREAS, parks are of critical importance to Salt Lake City and the greater Salt Lake City metropolitan area; and

      WHEREAS, the City has had a long standing interest in acquiring and preserving parks; and

      WHEREAS, the City is aware of the possibility of acquiring approximately 15.85 acres of property located at 2200 West and 2596 North near the Westpointe Community Council district; and

      WHEREAS, it has been proposed that the City support acquisition of the property for a proposed neighborhood park; and

WHEREAS, the property will be developed for community enjoyment and recreation; and

      WHEREAS, in October 2012 the City’s Parks, Natural Lands, Urban Forestry and Trails Advisory Board recommended that this project move through the Open Space acquisition process; and

WHEREAS, the City Council agrees that it would be appropriate for the City to accept future maintenance and ownership responsibilities for the park; and

      WHEREAS, the City Council finds that this Resolution is in the best interest of the City;

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, as follows:

      1.    The City Council hereby expresses its support for the proposed 2200 West Neighborhood Park project and the City’s accepting of future maintenance and ownership responsibilities for the park.

      2.    The City Council hereby expresses its support for the acquisition of the 15.85 acres located at 2200 West and 2596 North from the current property owners using Open Space Bond Funds.

      3.    The City Council encourages the administration to complete the acquisition of this project and at a future date facilitate a public process to determine use.

      4.    The City Council also expresses its support and expectation that the administration will continue its current efforts to foster additional community support for the project.
