RESOLUTION NO. 33 OF 2013
A resolution regarding the Plan Salt Lake Master Plan.
WHEREAS, the City Council of Salt Lake City has established developing and updating master plans for the city as a high priority; and
WHEREAS, the city council has determined that outlining each master plan’s proposed goals, outcomes and timelines will help guide the master planning process and promote its purposes; and
WHEREAS, the city has commenced work on the Plan Salt Lake master plan, a comprehensive general plan to guide the land use planning for Salt Lake City.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of Salt Lake City:
SECTION 1. That the city council hereby approves the following proposed goal of the Plan Salt Lake master plan:
Goal: The goal of Plan Salt Lake is to develop a city wide vision and high level policies to guide future community and elemental plans and aid in the decision making process for boards and commissions and elected officials for the next twenty years.
SECTION 2. That the city council hereby approves the following proposed outcome of the Plan Salt Lake master plan:
Outcome: Plan Salt Lake will consider all aspects of the community’s future, including areas of:
•Housing
•Transportation
•Recreation and open space
•Economic development
•Education
•Arts and culture
•Urban design
•Institutions
•Land use
•Neighborhoods
•Resources
•Infrastructure
Each of these areas will be addressed through a lens of equity, sustainability, community resiliency, cross department and jurisdictional cooperation and representation of community memory/ history.
Plan Salt Lake will not contradict existing policies, rather it will help guide future policies. Plan Salt Lake enhances existing policies by identifying ways to measure success.
SECTION 3. That the city council hereby approves the following proposed timeline of the Plan Salt Lake master plan:
Timeline: Plan Salt Lake began in July 2011 with initial planning preparation. Currently, planning division staff is finalizing the Existing Conditions Analysis. It is anticipated that the plan will be transmitted to the city council in February 2014 following a recommendation from the planning commission.
