Authorizing Salt Lake City

To Apply for a Grant Award From

The United States Bureau of Reclamation

WaterSMART: Water and Energy Efficiency Grants for FY 2016

 

      WHEREAS, the United States Bureau of Reclamation (the “Bureau”) offers grants under its WaterSMART: Water and Energy Efficiency Grants for FY 2016 Program; and

      WHEREAS, the City has adopted its 2014 Water Conservation Master Plan, which includes, among other things, objectives implement program practices to reduce water use and water waste; and

      WHEREAS, the Department of Public Utilities has adequate capability within its budgeting and staffing resources to meet the in-kind contribution match portion for the implementation of the proposed grant project; and

      WHEREAS, through the Bureau’s Grant Program, the full cost of conducting key tasks such as development of a web-based water demand management system, implementation of WaterMAPS, irrigation audits, landscape assessments, data analysis could be funded, thereby reducing the City’s expenditure for the project, making funds available for other water conservation projects throughout the City.

      NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, as follows:

1. That the Director of the Department of Public Utilities should submit the grant application (attached as Exhibit A) with the Bureau to fund the proposed project and to work with the Bureau to meet established deadlines for the City to enter into a cooperative agreement to accept a grant from the Bureau. 

2. Jacqueline M. Biskupski, Mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah, or her designee, shall have the authority to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Bureau, upon appropriate review and approval of the City Council.
