SALT LAKE CITY CORPORATION
JOINT Resolution NO. 10 of 2013
Resolution Urging Utah State Legislature to Implement Medicaid Expansion
Whereas, current Medicaid rules exclude adults without minor children and parents who earn more than 50 percent of the federal poverty level, and
Whereas, Utah State law requires counties to provide behavioral healthcare services to their residents regardless of the residents’ ability to pay, and
WHEREAS, counties in Utah are struggling to meet the costs of providing these services to those with Medicaid insurance, and
Whereas, the adoption of the full Medicaid expansion will keep millions of federal tax dollars in Utah, and
Whereas, a growing number of Governors, including some of the most vocal critics of the Affordable Care Act, have announced they believe Medicaid expansion is in the best interest of their states and are opting into the Medicaid expansion.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
that the Salt Lake City Council and Salt Lake City Mayor urge the Utah State Legislature and Utah Governor Gary Herbert to implement the Medicaid expansion in order that this expansion be available on January 1, 2014.
Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah this 5th day of March, 2013.
