PLNAPP2014-00081 Trolley Square Water Tower Signs - Khosrow Semnani has filed an appeal of a February 6, 2014 decision by the Historic Landmark Commission where a request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to reface the existing movie theater signs on the north and south sides of the water tower and install electronic message signs was denied. The site is an individually listed landmark site on the City Register and located in the Central City Historic District, located at approximately 602 E 500 South. The subject property is within the CS Community Shopping zoning district. The site is located in Council District 4 represented by Luke Garrott. PLNPCM2014-00114 CenturyLink Ground Mounted Utility Box Conditional Use Appeal –Ralph Vigil, representing CenturyLink, requested approval from the City for a ground mounted utility box in the public right-of-way at approximately 503 E First Avenue. On October 23, 2013, the Planning Commission denied the Conditional Use request. The Applicant appealed that decision to the Appeals Hearing Officer. On January 13, 2014, the Appeals Hearing Officer reversed the Planning Commission decision and approved the conditional use. He also remanded this issue back to the Planning Commission to consider reasonable conditions that may be imposed on the use to mitigate reasonably anticipated detrimental effects as per the Salt Lake City Zoning Ordinance. On February 26, 2014, the Planning Commission approved the conditional use with conditions. Michael and Patricia Lawrence are appealing the February 26, 2014 decision of the Planning Commission. The subject property is within the RMF-35 Moderate Density Multi-Family Residential zoning district. The site is located in Council District 3 represented by Stan Penfold. PLNAPP2014-00069 Liberty Gateway Sign – Scot Safford, representing Cowboy Partners, has filed an appeal of an Administrative Interpretation that was rendered on January 17, 2014. The Applicant was seeking the interpretation that a proposed sign located at the entry of their new multi-family residential development, Liberty Gateway Apartments at approximately 50 S 500 West, is not a pole sign. Pole signs are not a permitted sign type in the GMU zoning district except when authorized by specific exceptions.
