SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE
No. 25 of 2018
(Enacting Chapter 18.58 Solar Panel Fees)
An ordinance enacting Chapter 18.58 of the Salt Lake City Code, to provide information on fees for solar panels.
WHEREAS, on July 12, 2016, the Salt Lake City Council and Mayor Jackie Biskupski formally adopted a Joint Resolution to transition the Salt Lake City community to 100% renewable electricity sources by 2032, to reduce 80% of Salt Lake City’s carbon emissions by 2040, and to achieve these goals through energy efficiency as an important cost-effective measure to achieve these goals; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that enacting the ordinance set forth in Chapter 18.58 furthers the health, safety, or welfare of the citizens of Salt Lake City;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That chapter 18.58, of the Salt Lake City Code shall be, and hereby is, enacted to read as follows:

18.58.010 PURPOSE.
Salt Lake City intends to transition toward 100% renewable electricity sources by 2032, to reduce 80% of Salt Lake City’s carbon emissions by 2040, and to achieve these goals through energy efficiency as an important cost-effective measure to achieve these goals. Utilization of solar panels will contribute significantly towards Salt Lake City’s efforts to effectuate this transaction.
18.58.030 FEES
The fees associated with the installation of solar panels on any new or existing building or structure and any corresponding permits shall be as set forth on the Salt Lake City consolidated fee schedule, and assessed based on the kW size of the system, up to 100kW. Fees for installations larger than 100 kW will be assessed as electrical system permitting fees.
SECTION 2. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall become effective on the date of its first publication.
