RECORD OF DECISION FOR THE HISTORIC LANDMARK COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2009.
The following Record of Decision document by the Historic Landmark Commission is being provided to you for information purposes only. No action by the Administration or Council is required at this time. Please note that any conditions of approval listed herein are not final until the minutes are ratified at the next meeting of the Historic Landmark Commission.
PLNHLC2008-00693, Minor Alteration—a request by SK Hart, represented by Otto Gehring, for minor alterations to an office building located at approximately 630 East South Temple in the South Temple Historic District. The applicant is proposing to add a covered entry feature and circular driveway. The property is zoned RO Residential/Office and is located in City Council District 4, represented by Council Member Luke Garrott. (Staff: Nick Norris, 535-6173, nick.norris@slcgov.com)
Decision: The Commission denied the request.
Conditions of Approval: None
Petition PLNHLC2008-00687 – McCarthy New Construction – a request by Maura McCarthy for New Construction located at approximately 524 N. Main Street in the Capitol Hill Historic District. The proposed project involves construction of a new single-family residence. The property is zoned SR-1A, Special Development Pattern Residential District and is located in City Council District 3 represented by Council Member Eric Jergensen. Decision: The Commission approved the request based upon staff findings and subject to conditions of approval.
Conditions of Approval:
1. Approval of the final details of the design including materials, as well as any other direction expressed by the Commission shall be delegated to the Planning Staff.
2. All windows shall be set back from the wall plane of the building and framed in materials that appear similar to those used traditionally.
3. The use of a new material such as the suggested LP siding material applied in a vertical manner shall be allowed as detailed in submitted plans.
4. The project must meet all other applicable City requirements, unless otherwise modified within the authority of the Historic Landmark Commission and/or Board of Adjustment.
5. The approval will expire if a permit has not been taken out or an extension granted within 12 months from the date of the approval.
Petition PLNHLC2009-00013 – Forest Dale National Historic District – a request by the Utah Department of Transportation soliciting comments from the Historic Landmark Commission regarding listing the proposed district on the National Register of Historic Places. The proposed district is roughly bounded by 700 East, I-80, Commonwealth Avenue and 900 East, includes multiple zoning districts and is located in City Council District 7 represented by Council member Søren Simonsen. Decision: The Commission approved a motion to forward a positive recommendation to the State Historic Preservation Office regarding the Forest Dale Historic District National Register Nomination.

Petition PLNPCM2009-00014 – Economic Hardship Ordinance Text Change – a request by the Mayor’s Office for the Historic Landmark Commission to recommend text changes to the Economic Hardship portion of the zoning code to the Planning Commission and City Council. Decision: The Commission tabled the item, and formed a Committee to review issues raised during the public hearing.
