September 7, 2017 Board of Canvassers

 

The City Council met as the Board of Canvassers on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 3:35 p.m. in Room 326, Committee Room, City County Building, 451 South State.

 

     The following Board Members were present:

 

Charlie Luke       Andrew Johnston    Stan Penfold

Lisa Adams         Derek Kitchen

 

     The following Board Members were absent:  

 

Erin Mendenhall    James Rogers       Jacqueline Biskupski

 

     Staff in Attendance: Jennifer Bruno, Council Executive Deputy Director; Margaret Plane, City Attorney; Ben Luedtke, Council Public Policy Analyst; Nicole Smedley, Assistant City Recorder; and Cindi Mansell, City Recorder.

 

     Boardmember Penfold presided at and conducted the meeting.

 

     The meeting was called to order at 3:35 p.m.

 

AGENDA ITEMS

 

#1.  3:33:47 PM The City Council will meet as the Board of Canvass to consider the recount, canvass the election returns, and declare the 2017 Primary Election results for Council District Five. The Board of Canvassers, which includes the Mayor and City Council, will canvass and declare the recount results of the Municipal Primary Election for Council District Five. The Board had previously canvassed and declared the results for Council Districts 1, 3, 5, and 7 on August 29, 2017. A recount was requested and conducted on September 6, 2017. Consideration will be given to the results for District Five.  View Attachments

 

Ms. Mansell explained the recount process and said the result was one additional vote for candidate Erin Mendenhall. She explained the extra vote was the result of a signature verification ballot that had not been previously counted. She said there were no other changes to the original canvass totals as adopted on August 29, 2017 by Resolution 20 of 2017.

 

Boardmember Luke moved and Boardmember Johnston seconded to adopt Resolution 24 of 2017, declaring the results of the September 6, 2017 Municipal Primary Election recount for Council District Five, which motion carried, all members presented voted aye.

 

The meeting adjourned at 3:38 p.m.
