The City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, met in Regular Session on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 8:37 p.m. in Room 326, Committee Room, City County Building, 451 South State.
The following Council Members were present:

Councilmember LaMalfa presided at and conducted the meeting.

NEW BUSINESS
#1. Adopting a resolution recognizing the benefit and success of the local opinion process as demonstrated by the recently concluded vote-by-mail used for Local Opinion Question Number One. The local opinion process was adopted by the Council in 2012 and allows citizens to express their opinions through a public vote or other process approved by the Council.

#1. 8:38:32 PM Accepting and approving the results of Local Opinion Question Number One. View Attachments The opinion question asked whether respondents agreed with the following statements: "Only human beings, not corporations, are endowed with constitutional rights," and, "Money is not speech and therefore regulating political contributions and spending is not equivalent to limiting political speech."
Opinion Question Number One is the first in a new process adopted by the Council that allows citizens to express their opinions through a public vote or other process approved by the Council.
Councilmember Penfold moved and Councilmember Simonsen seconded to adopt Resolution 48 of 2013, which motion carried, all members voted aye.
