George Chapman said the City should consider obtaining an ombudsman/assistance group to provide residents with outreach/education regarding the recent increase of property taxes. He expressed concern that many City residents were not aware of their options (low-interest loans, State assistance for elderly/disabled persons, etc.).
Ann Charles and Katie Mulliken both expressed disappointment that no further changes had been made to the Police budget (budget reduction, reform within the Police Department, unwillingness to implement any type of real change, etc.).
Councilmember Mano moved and Councilmember Johnston seconded to close the public hearing and adopt Ordinance 36 of 2020, establishing the final rate of tax levy, including the final levy for the Library Fund, upon all real and personal property within Salt Lake City, made taxable by law for fiscal year 2020-2021, and ratify the budget as adopted by the Council in June, which motion carried, all members voted aye (roll call).
