#1. RE: Proposed interlocal cooperative agreement regarding Job Training Partnership Act of 1982.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Council consider authorizing the Mayor to sign the interlocal cooperative agreement.
DISCUSSION: The agreement keeps Salt Lake City Corporation in the consortium that was established under the former CETA program. This is necessary if the City wishes to participate now or in the future in the recently passed Job Training Partnership Act of 1982. The City is not obligated unless it wishes to be under this agreement. Leigh von der Esch said that this is a request to continue an existing agreement on a consortium between Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County and Tooele County.
The proposed resolution would authorize the Mayor to enter into an interlocal agreement to administer the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) the way CETA was administered within the consortium. Councilmember Shearer said that this program is recommended by the state who is the overall supervisor of the program. Ms. von der Esch said that no money was involved in this request.
Councilmember Shearer moved and Councilmember Mabey seconded to adopt Resolution 51 of 1983 authorizing the execution of an interlocal cooperation agreement between Salt Lake County, Salt Lake City, and Tooele County for the conduct of provisions of the Job Training Partnership Act of 1982 (JTPA), which motion carried, all members present voting aye.
