City Council Announcements

A.    Information Needed by Council Staff

1.    City Council Legislative Action Item:
The City Council Transportation and Mobility Subcommittee has forwarded a legislative action item to codify in City ordinances an Executive Order for accommodating bicyclists and pedestrians on City streets. Subcommittee members Garrott, Love, Simonsen and Turner all have indicated support for the measure.

Does the full Council wish to consider this item at a future meeting?  Councilmember Garrott said there was an additional item included in the issue.  He said it had to do with motorcycle and scooter parking.  He said the idea was that on every block face where there was already parking for cars; there would be designated motorcycle and scooter parking.  He said if there were parallel spots they would take out one slot and make it into four spots.  He said if there was 45 degree parking, they would take out two spots.  He said that would be added as the quality of a complete street.  Ms. Gust-Jenson said with the Chair’s approval, Russell Weeks could write the additional wording into the item and then bring it back for briefing or bring it back for announcements.  Councilmember Garrott said he wanted the Administration to give the Council their input.  Councilmember Christensen said he wanted to understand the additional caveat and what it meant.  He said staff could check with the Administration and see when they were prepared to do that.  He said then there could be a follow-up discussion.  Councilmember Christensen said staff could follow-up and make sure that the four Council Members who voted in favor of this issue knew what it was they were voting on.

2.    On a bi-weekly basis, Council staff prepares a list of upcoming general appointments and events, and emails this to Council Members.

Is this a helpful effort for Council Members, or if it is something that is no longer needed?  Councilmember Christensen said he did not use it.  Councilmember Garrott said it was helpful to him.

3.  Ms. Gust-Jenson asked the Council Members if they wanted to change the policy on setting hearings the same night as the briefing.  She said a lot of times staff asked the Council if they could expedite an item and not wait a week between the briefing and the date setting.  Council Members were not opposed to setting the date the same night as the hearing.

4.    Provided the new process the Council utilizes to approve grant funding within the Consent Agenda, an outline of the grant applications is below. The details of each grant are also attached. If you have any objections, please speak with a member of staff.
