SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE

No. 73 of 1999

 

(Providing for Waiver of Building Permit and Inspection Fees for Reconstruction Due to Tornado and Severe Weather Conditions)

 

WHEREAS, Salt Lake City Ordinances currently require the payment of a building permit and inspection fee for most types of construction and reconstruction; and

WHEREAS, August 11, 1 999, a tornado and severe weather conditions occurred in the downtown and the avenues areas of Salt Lake City; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor of Salt Lake City has issued a Proclamation declaring a state of emergency; and

WHEREAS, the tornado and severe weather conditions were an unprecedented natural disaster which occurred without warning and caused significant damage to buildings and property which City residents could not reasonably have anticipated; and

WHEREAS, the storm has damaged buildings and structures in a way that leaves City residents and their property unprotected from weather, crime and other dangers; and

WHEREAS, the City has an interest in facilitating the repair and reconstruction of such damaged buildings as soon as possible to protect against further loss and damage to the citizens of Salt Lake City and their property, without adding to the costs of such repairs.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City.

Utah:

SECTION 1. If any building or structure located within Salt Lake City has been damaged as a result of the tornado and severe weather conditions which occurred on August 11, 1 999, as determined by the Salt Lake City Building Official, all permit and inspection fees which would ordinarily be required for the repair and reconstruction of such damage, shall be waived by the City.

SECTION 2. Effective Date. Due to the emergency conditions which exist, this ordinance shall become effective immediately.
