SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE
No. 71 of 1999
(An ordinance amending Title 8, Salt Lake City Code, relating to Animal Control)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8.08.010, RELATING TO PERMITS REQUIRED FOR DOMESTIC FOWL AND LIVESTOCK.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City. Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 8.08.010 of the Salt Lake City Code, relating to domestic fowl and livestock be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
8.08.010. Domestic fowl and livestock - Permit required.
A. It is unlawful for any person to keep within the City any chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, pigeons or other similar domestic fowl, or more than two rabbits, or other similar animals, without first making application for and obtaining a permit from the office of animal services to do so. The fee for such permit shall be five dollars per animal, but shall not exceed forty dollars per year.
B. It is unlawful for any person to keep within the City any sheep, goats, cows, calves, pigs, horses, jacks, jennies, or other similar animals, without first making application for and obtaining a permit from the office of animal services to do so. The fee for such permit shall be forty dollars each year. Such permits shall not be issued for any area of the City except areas zoned as agricultural districts under Section 21 A.32.050 or its successor section.
SECTION 2. That Chapter 8.08.020 of the Salt Lake City Code, relating to permit issuance conditions be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
8.08.020 Permit-Issuance conditions-Number of animals-Department powers.
The Salt Lake City-County health department is empowered to make rules and
regulations governing the keeping of such domestic fowl and animals, as may be required to protect the health and welfare of the citizens of this jurisdiction; provided, that in no
case shall such a permit be issued by the sanitary division of the city-county health
department to keep any mink or snake, nor except as provided in Section 8.08.030 of this chapter, or its successor, to keep more than the following number of domestic fowls:
Twenty-five chickens, twenty-five ducks, twenty-five turkeys, twenty-five pigeons, or twenty-five other similar domestic fowl; or to keep more than the following number of animals: Two sheep, two goats, one cow, one calf, one pig, two horses, two jacks, two jennies, ten rabbits, or other similar animals.
SECTION 3. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its first publication.
