THE CITY COUNCIL OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1987, AT 7:30 P.M. IN THE CITY COUNCIL OFFICE, SUITE 300, CITY HALL, 324 SOUTH STATE.
THE FOLLOWING COUNCIL MEMBERS WERE PRESENT: FLORENCE BITTNER THOMAS M. GODFREY GRANT MABEY ROSELYN N. KIRK SYDNEY R. FONNESBECK WILLIE STOLER EARL F. HARDWICK.
Mike Zuhl, chief of staff, was present. Mayor Palmer DePaulis, Roger Cutler, city attorney, Kathryn Marshall, city recorder, and Lynda Domino, chief deputy city recorder, were absent.
Council Chairperson Kirk presided at and conducted the meeting.
DEPARTMENTAL BUSINESS
MAYOR’S OFFICE
#1. RE: The appointment of Shauna O’Neil and France Davis to the Salt Lake City Housing Authority Board of Directors.
ACTION: Councilmember Godfrey moved and Councilmember Mabey seconded to approve the appointments, which motion carried, all members voted aye.
DISCUSSION: Councilmember Fonnesbeck indicated that the Council wanted a minority member on the Board and asked if it was a federal requirement. Mr. Zuhl said no it was not. Councilmembers Bittner and Hardwick said they wanted a strong administrative person on the board and Mr. Zuhl said they looked for people with a variety of experience.
Councilmember Kirk asked why they didn’t have a person for the third appointment and Mr. Zuhl said they had not selected someone but were trying to move ahead as quickly as possible. Councilmember Fonnesbeck suggested that when there was this many new appointments to one board, the members should have an early training session in a retreat after their appointment.
