PROCEEDINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH

MONDAY, JANUARY 6, 1986

 

THE CITY COUNCIL OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, MET ON MONDAY, JANUARY 6, 1986, AT 12:00 NOON IN ROOM 301 CITY AND COUNTY BUILDING FOR THE OATH OF OFFICE CEREMONY.

 

THE FOLLOWING COUNCIL MEMBERS WERE PRESENT: RONALD WHITEHEAD EARL F. HARDWICK GRANT MABEY THOMAS M. GODFREY SYDNEY R. FONNESBECK EDWARD W. PARKER.

 

Councilmember Kirk was absent from the meeting.

 

Mayor Palmer DePaulis, Kathryn Marshall, city recorder, and Lynda Domino, chief deputy city recorder were present.

 

Council Chairperson Hardwick presided at and conducted the meeting.

 

Boy Scout Troop 565 presented the colors and led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dr. Lowell Bennion gave the invocation.

 

Kathryn Marshall, city recorder, administered the Oath of Office to Florence B. Bittner, Council District 1, Sydney R. Fonnesbeck, Council District 3, Thomas Godfrey, Council District 5, and W. M. “Willie Stoler, Council District 7.

 

Councilmember Bittner said that commitment to the future must continue in every facet of the community and she committed to using city funds carefully and keeping in mind the dual responsibility to today and the future. Councilmember Fonnesbeck said that the Council had succeeded in the last 6 years and indicated that this was not because of the individual but because of all the members working together. She felt that the greatest challenge for the next four years would be the restoration of the City and County Building. Councilmember Godfrey expressed his commitment to do what is right for the city and the people. Councilmember Stoler said that his goal was to stress team work and his decisions would be based on what is best for Salt Lake City.

 

Councilmember Whitehead thanked the people that he had worked with during his years as a councilmember and Councilmember Parker said it had been a marvelous experience to associate with the Council, city administration, and employees. On behalf of the city, Mayor DePaulis presented both Councilmember Whitehead and Councilmember Parker with an engraved plate.

 

Councilmember Hardwick welcomed the new members to the Council and their ideas. Mayor DePaulis said that the Council had the competence, courage, excitement and dedication to accomplish what needed to be done.

 

The ceremony concluded at 12:40 p.m.
